No.1 / Bruton

no1fob-5no1fob-2January 2020 //
working closely with good friend & leather maestro bill amberg / we designed these cheeky oversized key fobs to hang behind the reception desk at the gorgeous new hotel no.1 bruton / the simple combination of baskerville old face & various grotesque wood letter fused with the heavy leather / lend themselves to the juxtaposition of traditional & modern / craft & commerce // this is a lovely insta testimonial from the owners of the hotel @numberonebruton
testamonial no.1
“We asked @billambergstudio for their help with the key fobs and do not disturb signs for @numberonebruton. Bill said inspirational things like: ITS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO THINK DIFFERENTLY, DO SOMETHING HUMOROUS, BE CREATIVE! and then he spoke to mr smith @obliquestroke and together they made these beauties.”

Osip. / Gift Voucher

IMG_5751IMG_5760
December 2019 /
a very simple Gift Voucher for Osip / a new – michelin star – restaurant in my home town in Somerset // hand-set in 12pt Bell & Grotesque 9 & printed in a deep olive green on a recycled board // designed to be written on by the staff // Osip’s existing understated identity has some very gentle letters pacing through the name & is followed with a full point (stop) // despite being set in a more traditional font / these vouchers give a nod to the brand with spacing & the full point that that prescribe the hand written spaces

‘Osip is a tiny, farm-to-table restaurant situated in the heart of rural Somerset. We work with a small but perfectly formed group of local farmers, growers, hunters and gatherers to put together menus that reflect the very best of Somerset and its environs at any given moment.’ // Opening times // WED — SAT / Lunch & Dinner // SUNDAY / Lunch only // 1 High Street / Bruton / Somerset BA10 0AB // 01749 813322 / info@osiprestaurant.com / @osiprestaurant

Sutherl&Smith — a new collaboration — a new website

Collaborative work by
Jim Sutherland &
Kelvyn Laurence Smith
Over the last few years Mr Sutherland & Mr Smith
have been collaborating on typographic ideas.
These projects are all ‘designed, set & printed’
in Mr Smith’s letterpress workshop in London
& are self-initiated pieces conceived to explore
the process of letterpress – express graphic ideas
& articulate the visual observations conceived
by the two gentlemen.
